"Is A Dedicated Server The Way To Go
For You?"
by Webhostingrevealed.com staff
Does everyone need a dedicated server for their web hosting? The answer
is no. If you have only one website and it is basically to share with
others your interests and hobbies, you probably don't need a dedicated
web server.
When is it time to get a dedicated web server?
This is a difficult question because of so many variables to take into
consideration. You can ask yourself questions like, "How many sites
do you want to host?", "How much disk space do you need for
each site?", "Is it for personal or business use?". And
the list of questions can go on.
Fortunately, there are some signs that could reveal that it is time
to move to a dedicated server:
- Your shared web host is unreliable because of bad scripts, overloads,
or just poor web site management by others with websites or the administrator.
Dedicated servers are managed by you so much of these problems can
be avoided with proper management.
- There are too many applications and other things that your web hosting
provider gives that take up valuable resources and slow down your
site from being viewed. Dedicated servers will only have the software
and scripts that you want to use so you can streamline your site and
have it load much faster.
- You experience frequent and lengthy downtimes with time consuming
support wait times. Dedicated servers give you total control so you
are able to troubleshoot problems immediately and even avoid some
problems by keeping a good maintenance schedule.
- If you have your own web design business or any other business where
you maintain or create websites for others, and then have to send
your clients to other for hosting. Dedicated servers will not only
provide you with extra money for hosting your clients but will also
make it easier to manage them.
- You keep moving from host to host for your web sites because you
can't find one that fits your needs. Dedicated servers give you the
freedom to customize how you will control your sites.
Dedicated server caveats
One thing to beware of when going with a dedicated server is that you
are in total control of your resources which means you need to know
what you are doing when it comes to the maintenance and operation of
the server. It requires greater technical knowledge and constant management.
Also, the costs are higher then getting shared hosting but, then again,
you are getting more for your money.
Know your needs
In conclusion, it is true not everyone needs a dedicated server.
Also, we have made just a few points on when it is the right time to
move to a dedicated server. The key to knowing when to move is when
you take a good hard look at where your web sites are now and where
you want them to go in the future.
