Internet: The vast network of computers that are connected together with the purpose of sharing information. The Internet is public and available to anyone with a computer and an Internet Service Provider.

Intranet: An intranet is a network of computers very similar to the Internet but on a smaller scale. Intranets are usually established by large corporate organizations to improve communication. The main difference between the Internet and an intranet other than its size is that an intranet is only accessible by authorized users.

IP Address: Stands for "Internet protocol address", aunique series of numbers that identify computers on the Internet. Each computer connected to the Internet must have its own IP address, and each Web site must similarly have an IP address.

IPP: Stands for "Internet presence provider", which is the same thing as a host.

IRC: Stands for "Internet Relay Chat", which is a very popular text-based chat network.

ISDN: Stands for "Integrated Services Digital Network", a high-speed technology that uses telephone lines to transmit data. Data transfer is typically 128,000 bits/sec.

ISP: Stands for "Internet Service Provider", an ISP provides a connection to the Internet, usually for a monthly fee.
